The story about a modern bride from a village in search of her fiancé is an allegory to my experience of living in a family with traditional patriarchal foundations, where marriage is the primary criterion of happiness for a woman. The series also has some attributes related to my family and origins — traditional dishes that I have seen at all Armenian feasts since childhood, and pigeons from my father’s real private dovecote. Crossing such different parts of my life in one shoot is my way of coming to terms with my personal experience and wanting to show that being different from my family in terms of values, but at the same time finding common ground and adapting age-old traditions to myself, is possible and very fun!
